The Pancreas

We have developed a major interest in the pancreas and shown that the pancreas can be a cause of unexplained gut symptoms. We have pioneered work looking at the damage in the pancreas using new endoscopic techniques and imaging.

So this is the picture of normal and abnormal pancreas and the question which we have raised is ‘are we failing to detect an underactive pancreas (pancreatic insufficiency) as a cause of unexplained gut symptoms?’

How we have helped our patients

We are the first investigators to use the new technique of CT scanning at post-mortem to look at the damage in the pancreas. By undertaking a CT at post-mortem a conventional post-mortem can be avoided.
