South Yorkshire Gastroenterology continues to be a global centre of excellence, producing high quality research and delivering superior clinical outcomes in the local community
The influence of BRET has already resulted in a sustained National and International research platform for Gastroenterology in South Yorkshire. There is a significant body of evidence to suggest that such initiatives directly impact on clinical outcomes for patients and the surrounding community.
BRET provides 3 tangible inputs
- The Sheffield GI symposium is the largest in the UK (>300 delegates) outside the national BSG meeting, within that we have embedded the key note speaker ‘The Bardhan Lecture’.
- The Sheffield Unit is encompassed within the Yorkshire training scheme and we provide a second meeting regionally called the Bardhan Fellowship, generally in March (annually) and designed to show case registrars in research (an open presentation competition with £500 cash prize to the winner) as well as live endoscopy.
- The BRET Fellowship programme: one fellow appointed at any given time undertaking a MD or PhD lasting for two to three years. The incumbent will be appointed through STH by competitive interview.
